How to claim your free containers

Visit any container distribution location within 12 months of your possession or occupancy date and bring one of the following:

  • A copy of your transfer deed showing your possession date, or
  • Your rental or lease agreement showing your occupancy date

Distribution locations may ask for a second piece of identification to confirm eligibility. Free containers are only available to the owner or renter. Your name and address must appear on the documentation.

Damaged containers

1
Take your broken Green Bin or Kitchen Catcher to any container distribution location.
2
Present the broken container and receive a free replacement.
3
Most locations cannot take back the broken container. You will be given a sticker showing your disposal options: drop off at a Niagara Region drop-off depot or book a large item pickup.

Container size limits

All garbage and organics bags, bins and containers shall not exceed the following limits:

  • Height: 91 cm (36")
  • Diameter: 61 cm (24")
  • Weight: 22.7 kg (50 lbs)

  • Garbage must be bagged inside the can — not loose
  • Bags must not exceed the lip of the container
  • Cans must have handles on the outside
  • Lids must be removable
  • Metal or plastic barrels, drums and cardboard boxes are not acceptable

Any rigid, reusable container can be used in place of a garbage can or Green Bin as long as it meets the size limits, has handles on both sides, and materials are clearly visible and sorted correctly. The container must meet the size requirements.

If you use a container other than a standard Green Bin for your organics, it must be clearly labelled. Order free organics stickers and have them mailed to your home by calling the Waste Info-Line.

Place in a sealed cardboard box, write "broken glass" clearly on the outside, and call Miller Waste Systems at 1-833-621-0726 or email Miller Waste Systems to arrange collection.

Blue and Grey Box recycling containers

Blue and Grey Box recycling containers are distributed and replaced by Circular Materials' contractor. New residents and anyone needing a replacement box can call 1-833-621-0726 or email Miller Waste Systems to get or replace your recycling boxes.
