When communicating with a person with a disability, Regional employees, volunteers and third-party contractors will do so in a manner that takes into account the person's disability.

How we serve you
Niagara Region employees, volunteers and third-party contractors will accommodate the use of personal assistive devices, which enable a person with a disability to access the Region's services, programs and facilities. These include but are not limited to wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, tablets, phones, screen readers, magnifiers, communication boards and hearing aids.
Where available, assistive devices at Niagara Region will be kept in good working order. Staff will be trained on how to use them, and the public will be informed of their availability.
Service animals are welcome at Regional locations unless they are prohibited by another law. If a service animal is prohibited, Niagara Region staff will explore other options that allow the person with a disability to participate.
People with disabilities may use a support person to help them with communication, mobility, personal care, medical or other needs.
If Niagara Region charges any admission fees for support people, notice will be given in advance. If Niagara Region, after consulting with the person with a disability, determines that a support person must attend with the individual, the support person will not be charged a fee.
If there is a temporary disruption in the availability of services, programs and facilities used by people with disabilities (for example, a temporary loss of elevator service), Niagara Region will notify the public of the reason for the disruption, the dates of disruption, the expected duration and a description of alternative facilities or services, if any, that are available.
This notice may be provided by a variety of methods, depending on the circumstances, and may include postings in Regional facilities or on Niagara Region's website.
All Regional employees, volunteers, third-party contractors and other people who provide goods, services or facilities on Niagara Region's behalf will receive training on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), the Human Rights Code and interacting with people with disabilities.
A copy of the Region’s accessible policy, training summary and customer service procedures are available upon request.
