Council
Regional Council is Niagara Region's final decision-making body. It's made up of the Regional Chair and elected representatives from Niagara's 12 local area municipalities, who set policy, approve the budget and make decisions on behalf of Niagara residents.
Important change for 2026: Beginning with the October 2026 election, Council will be made up of the 12 mayors, with the Regional Chair appointed by the Province. Learn more about governance changes in Niagara.
