Types of notices

Ticket

A sample ticket is an offence notice issued to an individual or corporation. You must action your ticket by selecting one of the three options listed on the ticket within 15 days of receiving your ticket.

Summons

A sample summons is an order to appear in front of a Justice of the Peace. You or someone on your behalf must attend court at the time and place shown on the summons.

Ticket options

By choosing this option, you're admitting guilt and must pay the total payable amount listed at the bottom of your ticket.

You can pay your ticket online, by phone, in person or by mail.

You will meet with a prosecutor to discuss your case and any possible resolution.

This is not a trial date, but you must attend. If you don't attend the meeting with the prosecutor, the case may continue without you, and you could be convicted.

How to request a meeting

To request an early resolution meeting with a prosecutor, confirm your address is correct on your ticket and complete one of the following:

If you believe you're not guilty of the offence noted on your ticket, you can request a trial. You may choose to have legal representation.

Confirm your address is correct on your ticket and complete one of the following:

  • Check Option 3 on your ticket, take a clear picture of the ticket and email to provincial offence information or fax to 905-687-6614
  • Check Option 3 on your ticket and deliver by mail or in-person to the Niagara Region Provincial Offences Courthouse at 445 East Main St., Welland, ON L3B 3X7

If you do nothing: Your offence notice will be reviewed and you may be convicted of the offence in your absence. Once convicted, the ticket options are no longer available to you and additional costs will be added to your fine. Unpaid fines are subject to collection enforcement.

Summons

A summons is different from a ticket. It's a formal court order requiring you to appear before a Justice of the Peace. You or someone on your behalf MUST attend court at the date, time and location shown on your summons.

If you received a summons:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes early
  • Bring your summons and any relevant documentation
  • You may choose to have legal representation

Failing to appear for a summons can result in additional charges and a warrant for your arrest.

Parking tickets

The Niagara Region Provincial Offences Courthouse does not handle parking tickets. Parking tickets must be paid at the city or town that issued the ticket.
