Project overview

The Town of Fort Erie is expected to see significant residential and employment growth by 2051. Fort Erie's wastewater infrastructure needs to be planned now to support this future growth and aging infrastructure. This includes:

  • Trunk sewers
  • Sewage pumping stations
  • Wastewater treatment plants, including Stevensville-Douglastown Lagoons

The project will assess existing wastewater services, evaluate growth scenarios and develop options to improve and optimize wastewater servicing. It will also develop a long-term wastewater servicing strategy for the Crystal Beach, Anger Avenue and Stevensville-Douglastown wastewater catchments.

This Region-led project follows the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment planning process, Phases 1 and 2, and supports the 2026 Water and Wastewater Master Servicing Plan Update.

The study will:

  • Review existing wastewater servicing
  • Evaluate growth scenarios
  • Identify infrastructure improvements needed to support growth
  • Develop alternative servicing options
  • Recommend efficient and cost-effective wastewater servicing and treatment solutions
  • Reassess the capacity of the Fort Erie wastewater system based on the preferred recommendation
